My sweet hubby found this gem...
“In fear-based repentance, we don’t learn to hate the sin for itself, and it doesn’t lose its attractive power. We learn only to refrain from it for our own sake. But when we rejoice over God’s sacrificial, suffering love for us – seeing what it cost him to save us from sin – we learn to hate the sin for what it is. We see what the sin cost God. What most assures us of God’s unconditional love (Jesus’s costly death) is what most convicts us of the evil of sin. Fear-based repentance makes us hate ourselves. Joy-based repentance makes us hate the sin.”
Timothy Keller
And a bit of a family update- we're now nicknaming Susanna "Peanut". Two days ago, she starting crying suddenly and when I ran to her and asked what the matter was, she pointed to her nose and whined pathetically, "The nut!"
I had given her peanuts to snack on, which were scattered on a plate next to her.
"Did you put a peanut up your nose?"
(Still whining) "Uh-huuuuhhh!"
After comforting her for a few moments (and trying to hold back nearly uncontrollable laughter...as any compassionate mom would do), I asked, "Why did you put a peanut up your nose, Susanna?"
She replied emphatically, "I didn't want it."
